Just the Facts, Ma'am

In my ever wandering search for unbiased information I was pointed to
The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the Univ. of Pennsylvania

Initial perusal SEEMS to indicate that they are fair and balanced and interested in only the truth:
"Moveon.org Voter Fund falsely attacks Bush, who comes back with a misleading ad about Kerry"
That is a perfect example of my initial impression. I am considering making links to this site and other non-partisan sites.
I would like to ask posters to review this site and tell us if they know anymore and then respond to those suggestions. The idea is that I will make links. Don't even bother giving us obviously partisan sites.

RadMod, you pinged it on this one. I use it to stay focussed and have referenced it onb numerous occasions. The only complaint I have received when referencing this site is a lame excuse that they are lazy and don't analyze economics data properly. I rate them as at least 99% non-partisan, which is pretty damn good for this crazy period.

Amen, gecko. Any others you know of? I forgot to mention Pew Research Center. I don't know why but there's just something that bugs me about them. Maybe because they are the one's that put me into the disaffected category.

Boy, I'm getting more and more impressed with Annenberg which I forgot to mention is "factcheck.org". I just read about the DNC's attack on job losses. I knew we've lost total jobs (1.8 million?) but the DNC attack uses manufacturing numbers to make it look worse, ignoring that they had been in decline for three years! I would've never picked that up.

I will give you what I have saved in favorites to date, however I have only visited these once or twice and initially found them to be non-partisan. I don't know yet how to make a hyperlink to the post.

The Center for Public Integrity (thruth in journalism)
http://www.publicintegrity.org/default.aspx

Open Secrets.org (where the money comes from - check out the 527's!)
http://www.opensecrets.org/

Find Law (if I want to know the law, it's here. WARNING - I think lawyers run this site!)
http://www.findlaw.com/

Happy research!

Bill Moyers frequently interviews Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Dean of the Annenberg School for Communication, about the commercials they are evaluating. Hold on, here's a URL:

They also have a section of their website devoted to campaign video links:

I dont know where to ask this. I already have an assignment in my current affairs class. Its notdue for a while but ...

I have to write a paper that answers
"1) What does it mean to be a liberal or a conservative?
2) What are the classic definitions.
3) Describe if the roles have changed in America.
4) Describe the two major parties and their relationship to your definition of conservative and liberal.
5) Describe how your definition of conservative and liberal correspond to European definitions."

My prof could be Radmod cuz he specifically says "any diatribe or unreasoned disparaging of either conservatives or liberals will result in automatic failure."

Maybe Radmod could post this and you guys could help me out.

Are you asking us to do your homework for you ;-)
Actually, I'd be interested in knowing what you all think is liberal and otherwise in America. The terms to the left, to the right are commonly used but I don't quite know what someone means when they say they are far right, far left. Usually anyone with a religious bent would say far right, correct?

How would you define European? UK and continental europe?

Check out this article
The Right's New Wing in the August 30 Time magazine. It might answer some of your questions about right and life in America.

If I come across more stuff, I'll point you to it and you can make your own judgement about whether it's useful. If you're writing a paper, you need to cite sources.

It's the weekend. I know I have to spend time with my wife and the kids (Pez, KT and Josh) are probably partying after a 'rough' three days of school LOL. Also I haven't added any new posts so they're probably posted out.

In my opinion, the Annenberg Public Policy Center is biased towards Barack Obama. This is an unfortunate opinion for me to make as I have enjoyed the "factcheck.org" website for years.

My opinion is largely based on their critique of the two candidates' "tax plans."

The Obama plan is diverse to the point that it gives just enough "breaks" for the partisan Obama supporter to latch onto. But the reality is he is denying the negative impact that raising income taxes on people in the $250 - $500K range hurts the growth of jobs; because small business owners are generally in that category (I'm one).

Their partisanship may have something to do with the Bill Ayers issue as well; specifically the link to the "Annenberg Challenge" organization.
